EQUINE MASSAGE THERAPY

STEPHANIE DEMUTH

What is Equine Massage?

Equine massage is the use of hands-on techniques to manipulate areas of tight muscles, loosen joints and tendons by increasing the blood flow and lymphatic drainage. It can also reduce stress and anxiety in the horse, leading to a more balanced state of well-being.

All horses and ponies of any age and ability can benefit from regular massage therapy. Just like humans, every horse has its own personality, traits, likes and dislikes and this is reflected in my approach and each individual treatment.

Benefits of Massage Therapy

Equine Massage Therapy offers many benefits to your horse, whatever their age, lifestyle, ability or workload.

Horses often have a lot to tell us, but we are not always looking for the right signals in understanding what they are trying to say.

The founder of equine massage, Jack Maegher, explains; “Massage is the study of anatomy in braille”. This is so true, without applying too much pressure, a picture of your horses’ tensions/stresses can be formulated.

Treatment Information & Prices

I am a qualified Equine Sports Massage and Rehabilitation Therapist and am fully insured. I offer various massage treatments depending on what your horse requires for their optimal health and well-being; whether as part of their pre exercise regime prior to athletic activities, to alleviate stress, to relax and nurture, or to assist healing and help recovery from illness or injury.

It is important to note that Equine massage is not intended to replace the care of your vet. Equine massage has many benefits, however I will not work on a horse that is in need of veterinary attention, or I feel that equine massage will not be a benefit to your horse. If your horse is currently under medical treatment from a vet, I will seek veterinary approval prior to the commencement of any treatment. Equine massage should only form part of your rehabilitation plan, alongside veterinary advice and any other equine professionals your horse may require at the time.

All initial treatments will require static and dynamic tests to build a picture of your horse’ requirements. This should take approx 10-15 minutes, followed by a massage treatment that will last 45 minutes. Subsequent massage treatments will be for the duration of 1 hour.
